Is the World of Weddings changing ?
Over decades the world of weddings has changed and for 2024 we are seeing even more changes. Gone are the basic church, hymns, standard wedding meal followed by traditional speeches and the first dance. Since the industry opened up to civil ceremonies people have been able to get married literally anywhere, from football stadiums to grand hotels. I for one welcomed these changes, I chose a beautiful stately home for my wedding back in 2002 when it was relatively new to do that.
But in 2024 we are seeing even more changes , people are still searching for that point of difference or wow factor – it used to be a balloon arch but now with the help of latest tech and even more creativity we are seeing more wonderful additions to the modern wedding , lets explore a few…
The Audio Guestbook
Yes you heard me right an audio guestbook – keeping the memories of all your wedding guests alive way beyond 2024. This is a so now addition to weddings and what a wonderful thig for the bride and groom to be able to listen to all of the messages the day after all of the madness has dies down. Companies like Wedding Phone dot com will set up a vintage style phone at the wedding reception and your guests are able to pick it up and leave the happy couple a message. You can even pre record a message that the guests will hear when they pick up the phone before they record theirs.
We think this is a cute addition and something that will live on for the couple years after the big day
Drone Footage
Whilst we are on the subject of long lasting memories lets talk about this, drone footage, its taking the video experience to a whole new level, literally! Remember back when we moved away from formal photos only to adding in some candid shots , well this adds more to that even. The angles a drone can get beat a photographer on the ground even one with a huge selfie stick. It really adds some depth and will capture moments maybe a standard video wouldn’t. This type of footage really comes into its own to showcase beautiful and even remote venues – I have seen some excellent examples.
The Wedding Cake
Back in the good old days we had a standard 3 tier fruit cake, admittedly this was pretty much a showpiece and no one ate it, an expensive ornament. But these days we want to get our moneys worth, we want people to eat the cake. So over the years we have seen so may things develop in this part of the wedding. The Cake is now getting to be more a reflection on the personalities of the couple themselves, we have seen pork pie cakes, cheese stacks, character cakes. But 2024 is taking things to a whole new level again and people are experimenting with flavours too, Match green tea, lemon & Honey to name a few. Also people are feeling like they can be quirky or go back to childhoods with Jelly, trifles etc, we are even seeing donut walls at luxury weddings and my favourite so far – a giant Colin the caterpillar !
Unique Favours
Well where do I start here, back in the day it was 3 sugared almonds in a small organza bag, even I thought I was bucking the trend back in 2002 swapping the nuts for love hearts ! Well now we are seeing all kinds of unique and special favours, its almost like battle of the favour every wedding wants to out do the next. So what kind of things are we seeing for 2024, there is the personalised gifts, from soap to bottle openers. These are a reminder for the guest of the happy day and can be kept and almost certainly wont be left on the table at the end of the night. But we are also seeing more lavish gifts too like , embroidered shawls, scented candles, bracelets, Even Jo Malone is doing luxury fragranced wedding favours!
